Barcelona

Me and my 50+ comic colleagues just got back from the Ficomic event in Barcelona.

Trying to imitate the poster photo at the Holanda stand.

Dibujar y cerveza! Drawing and beer!
(that kind of sums up the whole week)

¡Hola Holanda!

I didn't have time to update this blog because I've been so busy
with the designs for FICOMIC, a comicfestival in Barcelona, Spain.
Holland is the special guest there, and because they chose my
photo for the poster
, I also got to design the logo and flyer.

The logo in two languages, Catalan (left) and Spanish (right).
The text says 'the fun of drawing'.

My angel with the finished flyer, with part of the poster on the cover.
The flyer is actually the poster, fold twice. Inside there's information
in the shape of a comic strip.

And they're going to use my logo also for t-shirts! :-D

You can read more about the Dutchies in Barcelona on this blog.

For the flyer and poster I got help from Ruben Steeman from buro RuSt.
It apparently inspired him to make a drawing of me with angel wings!

Back with work

I know I didn't update this blog for a while. I've been really busy with work and
did not take any time to do any side projects, where I intended this blog for.
But let's share one of my recent projects;

This was the result of the photoshoot with Marco Bakker (I blogged about it before)
for the Dutch pavilion at the FICOMICS comicfestival in Barcelona.
They liked my photo so much that they wanted it for the poster, and assigned me to
design the poster and the accompanying flyer and logo.

For the poster I'm getting help of design company Buro RuSt, I love their work!
It always makes me happy when I meet talented creative professionals who are so
passionate about their work and playful with their ideas.

Snow and darkness

All the snow is gone and I miss it...

So here's a pic I made last week with some weird snowball animal.

Meanwhile I've been really busy with work and books.

Here's a sneak preview of the cover of my next book about my trip to South Africa.
The title will be 'Donker' (=Dark) and it will be released in June by Oog&Blik/De Bezige Bij.

And there's more news; Remember the photoshoot I did with my drawings?
The photo itself turned out so nice that they want to put it on the Dutch promotion
poster for Ficomic! I'll be hanging all over Barcelona in May!
However, they chose a photo where my face is covered by my hair and arms, so no
one will recognise me. :-P I hope to attend the festival as well.

Shoot!

Today I had a photoshoot for a portrait series of autobiographical comicartists.
The photographer, Marco Bakker, wanted to combine the real comicartists with
their drawn alter-egos.

Here are some quick idea sketches I made before hand.

My drawings.

'aureole'. (photo by Gert Jan Pos)

I really enjoyed this shoot. As a comicartist and illustrator, I usually work alone,
but it's great to have a chance to work with other creative professionals, who all
bring their own talents, ideas and experience into a project. :-)
